Every day, it seems like we’re hit with more bad news about our planet – trees are being cut down, plastic is flooding our oceans and toxic gases are causing the Earth’s temperature to rise. Living in a world that requires us to battle against brands that are damaging our environment can seem tiring, leaving us with a pessimistic view of tomorrow. Luckily, there are people across the planet pioneering change, and doing their best to pave the way to a more sustainable future. We’ve rounded up some progressive companies from across the globe, both small and large, that are having a positive impact on the world around them and leading the way for others to follow.
Ecosia
Thinking back to a time when we couldn’t instantly Google the answer to a question, seems like a scary and distant past. The internet has well and truly become a part of our everyday lives, but there’s another search engine on the block that can help us find the answers to our urgent questions, such as ‘how to get red wine out of a cream sofa’, while helping the environment, too.
Ecosia is an eco-friendly alternative to Google. They work in exactly the same way – you type in your keywords, hit enter, then you’re inundated with weblinks. The only difference is that Ecosia uses their profits to plant trees – so the more you search, the more they plant. The company was established in 2009 after founder Christian Kroll undertook a trip around the world, and realised the massive problem of deforestation. In April 2018, Ecosia celebrated planting their first 25 million trees, as well as constructing its own solar energy plant to power every search.
