I read with some disbelief the September Buyerʼs guide to the Jaguar XJ6/12. These cars were beautiful to look at, but, letʼs be honest, they were dreadful. Rusty almost from new, unreliable, with build quality that would have embarrassed Lada.
In the ʼ70s my father had owned a Triumph 2.5 PI and a Rover P6 3500S, but then circumstances changed and the Rover went, to be replaced by a new Nissan Bluebird 1800; it rusted epically, but was very reliable. In around 1990, after starting in business, he had the funds to buy a nice new car, a real landmark for him at around the age of 50, and he lusted after a Jag but had the sense to try a 7 Series and a Mercedes 300 as well.
