With ever-shifting global politics, Brexit (whichever way you feel about it), and the growth of right-wing populism, the world may feel like an unstable and daunting place at the moment, particularly as a member of a minority group. Every morning, it seems, social media greets us with news of another hate crime, whether it be trans-, LGBor race-related.

I am the new CEO of the charity Diversity Role Models, which is focused on ending bullying and creating inclusive views and behaviours in the next generation. You might think that getting people behind a cause such as ours would be easy right now. But it isn’t, and indeed, what we are seeing is an increasing number of LGBT charities and support structures closing.
