I MET HIM only once, in April 2018, in Berlin. His name was Benz, Doctor, or should I say Doktor, Arnold Benz. A tall man with a thin black moustache, despite his casual dress there was something of an old-fashioned look about him. He reminded me of a picture of Lord Lucan I’d once seen. Impeccably respectable. Or so he seemed.

Eco-Domus-2018, the European Conference on Ecological Housing, hosted that year by the Freie Universitaet Berlin. A forum for architects, construction companies, city planners, and engineers of all kinds, as well as the more of-the-wall characters who’ll come to anything if there’s an ‘eco’ in the title.
