Fort William and Ardnamurchan councillor Andrew Baxter has hit out at attempts by Highland Council leaders to justify their decision to block Lochaber councillors’ plans to remove parking charges in Fort William over the festive period, writes Neill Bo Finlayson.
Mr Baxter resigned from the council’s education and housing committee after a decision made by the Lochaber area committee to introduce two hours free parking in the run up to Christmas was overruled by what he termed ‘the Inverness matha’.
Highland Council has since stated the decision to block the proposal was based on its car parking policy. Council leader Margaret Davidson said because of this, the Lochaber committee ‘was not able to take this decision at that time’.
