‘It’s beginning to feel a bit like Christmas’ sang three novelty reindeer in a shop display. Surrounded by festive trees and decorations, it did, even though it was still mid-November!
There is something wonderful about this time of preparing: remembering people we will send greetings to, pondering presents, transforming homes into places fit for the festivities and planning the meals to feed our visitors.
It is wonderful, because it constantly points us towards the day itself. In churches, as in homes, we want Christmas to be special; to be a day when love and joy will set aside all the worries and concerns of normal life. So as the day draws closer, we invite you to come and sing carols and hear again of Jesus’s birth, as in our cathedrals and churches we delight in God’s message that love and joy can win when we set our hearts and minds to it, not just at Christmas but always.
