Relaxing Retreats

Relax, unwind and de-stress with a trip to one of these beautiful holiday retreats

Summer is a time to pack your bags and travel to somewhere new, a short escape from your daily routine, and the chance to re-invigorate yourself in the setting of beautiful scenery. We’ve been busy finding some amazing destinations for you to consider for your next relaxing retreat.

The Raw Retreat in Cornwall specialise in five areas; you can choose to focus on your health, weight loss, detox, juice fasting or undertake an intensive health retreat. They can also offer advice on fertility and diabetes. All of the food served is raw, and the retreat educates guests on how to live with a raw diet through workshops and a nutritional consultation. Be sure to clarify your plant based preferences as the menu may include sushi, as written on their website. Most of the options for the retreat include hypnotherapy and massages, yoga and guided walks along the Cornish coastline. Prices start from £975pp.

There’s six different wellness programmes to choose from at SHA Wellness Clinic, and they are anti-stress, wellness, weight-control & detox, fitness, recovery, and rejuvenation. The clinic is situated in 5000 square metres of Natural Park and surrounded by cliffs facing onto the Mediterranean Sea. All of the food served at SHA is prepared freshly and made to order for their guests’ needs and dietary requirements. The menus are different each day and they have the SHA menu, Biolight menu and Kushi menu to choose from that are all designed to be beneficial for different needs. Prices start from €1,250 per person.

About PlantBased

As we sat down this month to decide on our main theme for the June issue, we came to a quick decision that the arrival of summer must mean that it was time for a salads feature — something of an easy decision. Nonetheless, the debate that then ensued on what actually constitutes a salad left PBHQ far more divided. Should we still call a dish with grains and pulses and tofu and fruit and other obscure ingredients a salad, or should the name salad simply be reserved for the more traditional lettuce-tomato-dressing set up? Is it okay to get experimental when tackling a salad dish, rather than limiting yourself to the restricted old school definition of a salad? Facetious questions, yes. But if you’re anything like us, you may be feeling just as ardent in your views. Wherever you sit in the great salad debate, we should have something for you, head straight to for more. Let’s talk summer holidays! We’ve been compiling some amazing retreats that offer a relaxing atmosphere, serve dishes that are healthy and will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to tackle whatever life has to throw at you. Take a read and let your imagination run wild. And finally, if you’re keen to find new ways to not only get your children thinking about food and nutrition, but also get them involved with cooking in the kitchen, see how our talented young chefs Ruby and Faith got on in the PlantBased Kitchen recently. Plus, don’t miss our selection of child-friendly recipes, geared up to impress the whole family.
