THE full programme for the Isle of Man’s‘Year of the Railways 2023’, marking the 150th anniversary of the steam line and 130th anniversary of the Manx Electric Railway (MER), has been published. The former will be specifically celebrated on July 1 while the September 7 MER anniversary will be marked on September 10.
The primary focus of the Year of the Railways will be a series of special attractions between July 23-30. These will include Dubs 0-6-0T Caledonia appearing at Knockaloe and out of ticket Beyer Peacock 2-4-0T No. 8 Fenella at Peel, diesel MER car No. 34 Maria working passenger rides with an MER trailer, double-headed and banked trains on the steam line, cavalcades of MER, Snaefell and Douglas Bay Horse Trams, shed tours and much more.
