Trend: Open shelving
Our obsession with Mason jars, retro tins and quirky containers is growing by the day, so it’s no wonder that open shelving is the next biggest trend in kitchen design. Gone are the days of hiding away your food and kitchen essentials behind cupboards doors – now it’s all about showing off your crockery and kitchen accessories in all their glory. To stop your shelves looking like a jumble sale, invest in some stylish boxes or baskets to keep smaller items, such as spices, together and empty staples, such as pasta and rice, into large clip-top jars so you can easily spot when you’re about to run out. If you have a smaller kitchen, it might not be practical to have an entire wall dedicated to shelving. Instead, fit a floating shelf above your hob, or wherever you have space, to display carefully chosen knick-knacks and to keep your cooking essentials close to hand.
