There’s a big biking world out there…
Welcome to our fine supplement on 2018, another big biking year ready to be enjoyed. While here in the UK we’re waiting for our season to ripen, as the cold, wind and snow keep most bikers off their steeds, there’s plenty you can plan, or check out, or even go and do in warmer climes while the rest of us shiver and keep an eye on the weather reports. So in this little biking bible we’re going to show off what’s on over the year, advise how to get you, your bike and your kit ready for action and tempt you to try something new when the sun is finally above our heads, rather than forever in our eyes.
The most important thing, really, is to get out as often as possible. That may sound like a no-brainer, and I’m certainly not trying to teach anyone how to suck an egg, but the fact is that not everyone can ride whenever they like. Life, be that work or private, has a habit of getting in the way of our most beloved hobby, so even just a half an hour blast can blow off the cobwebs and satisfy the soul. Of course, a lot of you are already deep in planning your biking season, but many won’t be and there are always those not only new to biking, but the large spectrum of two-wheeled experiences available to them. One of the very best things you can do is to just get away on your bike for a decent stretch of days, be that touring the UK or, ideally, abroad. That’s when the relationship between the pair of you can really develop, day after day, becoming a real, tangible bond. Seasoned touring veterans know this already, it can be a wonderful learning experience, even if things don’t always go to plan! Have a read, see if anything takes your fancy, roll your eyes at anything you’re already more than au fait with, get excited about something you never thought of trying or going to see but most of all and, once again – get the hell out there!
