Here they come!
The time has arrived to dust off the cobwebs and get ready for partridges! This issue is a celebration of the joys of driven partridge and all the excitement that the early part of the season brings.
Alex Brant takes on tall red-legs at Northumberland’s Linhope estate, whilst Mike Barnes drops in on Holcot and discovers a shoot with a difference. We also visit Coates Hall, which has established a thriving population of wild English partridges, as well as travelling to Ireland where native greys are gradually on the road to recovery.
To help you turn this early season anticipation into success, Simon Ward offers his expert guidance on shooting driven partridge.
Looking back, David S. D. Jones takes a peep into the past and discovers how rearing methods have changed over the years whilst Rupert Godfrey reveals an extract from his new biography on the 2nd Marquis of Ripon – better-known as 'Lord de Grey' – arguably the greatest game Shot of all-time.
On the gun front, Vic Harker puts Krieghoff’s new K80 Parcours through its paces, we look into the revival of the hammer gun and Chris Batha compares heavy over-unders to side-by-sides for high pheasants. Elsewhere, we have contributions from Lord James Percy, Adrian Blundell, Michael Wigan and Charlie Berridge, all addressing a range of fascinating topics.
Mike Barnes looks at the life of the late JC Harrison, a prodigiously talented wildlife and sporting artist after a collection of his work fetched more than £500,000 at a Bonhams auction recently. And guest chef Michel Roux shares a partridge casserole recipe created especially for Fieldsports.
For the fishing enthusiasts, Matt Harris meets the charesmatic Andy Blyth for a day of salmon fishing on the Tyne and Marcus Janssen attempts a Testwood grand slam – a brownie, sea trout and salmon in one day.
Plus we have the second instalment from gundog trainer of the year Ben Randall, wildfowling in West Africa and much more…
