Origins ọ́kwụ̀rụ̀ (Okra)

There is a plant very high in magnesium, known for its edible pods and usually cultivated in warm, tropical (and subtropical) climates mainly in parts of Africa and Asia.

Okra, scientifically known as abelmoschus esculentus, is a word that is derived from the Igbo word ọ́ kwụ̀ rụ̀ . This fuzzy, green pod is popularly eaten in East African cuisine, although the sometimes gel-like texture (depending on how it is cooked) can put some off.
