MY FOOTBALL
ADRIAN DURHAM
talkSPORT’S chief live football presenter on how he fell in love with Peterborough, sticking up for Michael Carrick and the key to bladder control
PETERBOROUGH UNITED
What was the first game you ever attended?
I was born in 1969 but I clearly remember the ’74 World Cup Final, when I was so excited I threw up. I did the same for the ’78 final! The first game I went to was Peterborough 3-2Shrewsbury in 1976. I have the 10p programme framed at home. There were no fences then, so I sat on the wall with my legs dangling over onto the pitch. I wonder if I’d have been as taken with the game as I am today if we’d lost.
Who was your childhood hero and did you ever meet them?
A 16-year-old winger called Mark Heeley came on in that game. I was fascinated by him, because I remember how well he played. He got a move to Arsenal, but it didn’t work out for him. I met him 30 years later at a bus stop in Peterborough.
