Gianinna, the second of Maradona’s two daughters with long-term partner Claudia Villafane, was born in 1989 and later married Sergio Aguero. They wed in 2008, the same year Maradona became Argentina’s new coach – he was managing his son-in-law. Then at Atletico Madrid, Aguero scored in Maradona’s first competitive game as boss, a 4-0World Cup qualifying victory over Venezuela, but the rising star was behind Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez and Gonzalo Higuain in the pecking order for the 2010 tournament.
“It was my first World Cup, and it was an unbelievable experience,” Aguero tells FFT. “I was 22 and I’d had a great season at Atleti, so being summoned for the national squad came naturally. Having Diego as a manager was very special – he represents a lot of things to all Argentinians.
