The Doctor, Martha, and Captain Jack all received story-specific variants tying in to the blockbuster finale of Series 3. The Aged and Ancient Tenth Doctor pack and a Series 3 version of Captain Jack were issued as part of 2009’s Gelth Phantom collect-and-build assortment, the latter coming with an accessory: the former’s severed hand in a jar. A variant of Jack without his long coat was exclusive to a 2010 Tesco three-figure gift set, while a 2008 Martha figure dressed in black UNIT combat gear was packaged in a clamshell, complete with an Open Toclafane Sphere accessory that revealed the withered human head within.
Figures of both the Derek Jacobi incarnation of the Master and the John Simm version that he regenerates into were originally released in 2007 with an experimental, more ‘waxy’ type of head; later editions reverted to standard materials. The collect-and-build Gelth Phantom selection also included a Master Regenerated figure, using the Simm head on the Jacobi body. Two more Toclafane spheres – sealed and spherical this time – were issued alongside a clamshell rerelease of the suited Simm Master in 2008. Although only glimpsed briefly in this story, there was also a figure based on the red-robed Time Lord seen in flashback.
