When this arrived, I was in the early stages of training for my first ultra so I was eager to test its reported benefits.
This simple device is used in the medical profession as a device to help with asthma and breathing difficulties but it’s also used by fitness enthusiasts. Basically, it’s a dumbbell for your diaphragm. It strengthens your breathing muscles, using resistance-based exercises, known as Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT). By optimising the amount of oxygen you get to your brain and limbs, product makers claim you’ll build lung power, endurance, stamina and recover faster from training runs.
