SOUNDS & SAMPLES
Spitfire Audio –
Aperture The Stack £199
> Spitfire Audio are well known for using some very famous spaces for recording their sound libraries, and given their product schedule over the last few years they must be almost permanently camped out at both AIR Lyndhurst and Abbey Road studios. They’re also known for sometimes upping the ante when it comes to recording large numbers of musicians, with the 344 musicians and 26 mic positions on Hans Zimmer Strings being the perfect example. It therefore came as no surprise to discover that they had decided to apply this approach to electronic sources, and with ‘Aperture: The Stack’ they’ve delivered what appears (on paper at least) to be the self-indulgent fantasy of a synth-owning lunatic with very deep pockets. The Stack makes use of Lyndhurst Hall in a rather unconventional way by kitting it out with four levels of rigging and filling this with 56 guitar amps. These are bolstered by four subs to fill out the low end. This setup then captured various instrument and percussion sources, taking in synths, drum machines and modular gear, as well as electric guitar and bass. The sampled audio has then been mapped and categorised for access with Spitfire’s dedicated plugin.
