Bar
Acts as the guide for the cutting chain and has a groove that the chain follows. Bar length determines the size of branches you can cut.
Protective hood
This pivoting section sits on top of the bar, protecting the user from the upper chain. It means that if the saw kicks back, the sharp chain is covered. It replaces the chain brake, a safety feature you’d find on full-size saws, which engages when the saw detects kickback.
