GW FREE SEEDS

Sow your FREE seeds

This month, subscribers receive FREE cornflower ‘Blue Ball’ and carrot ‘Nantes 5’ seeds. The pretty annual flower and the heavy-cropping root veg give weeks of harvests throughout summer for vases and the kitchen. Cornflowers are a cottage-garden classic, adding charm and vibrant colour to borders. Sowing carrots gives you the choice of an early fresh ‘baby’ crop for sweeter flavour or large roots that can be pulled up until winter.

3 reasons to grow cornflower ‘Blue Ball’

A hardy annual that can be sown with no need for a propagator or greenhouse

Double flowers that add impact to borders

Tall stems that are good for cutting to use in indoor displays

Editorial
Dear subscriber Welcome to March
L a st autumn a group of us
We love…
We love March
In Greek mythology Aeolus was ruler of the winds and lived on a floating island near Sicily. He kept getting mixed up in the machinations of the Olympian gods as they wanted ships blown one way or the other. Anyway, I bring him up because March is a notoriously windy month: one in which Aeolus will be busy with brisk south-westerlies and nippy north-easterlies. Some days will be balmy, but don’t be tempted to risk tender plants outside as it could all change in the blink of an eye. Be patient, spring is coming. Just not quite yet.
