PREPARE TO SHINE
As Dublin Pride gets ready to take over the Irish capital for its 2024 festival this June, find out what you can expect from the historic celebration.
In June 1974, a small group of LGBTQ+ activists marched from the Department of Justice on Stephen’s Green to the British Embassy on Merrion Road calling for the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland. The historic moment is now considered to be Ireland’s first-ever Pride demonstration, and this year marks its monumental 50th anniversary.
The team at Dublin Pride are planning to celebrate in a big way, describing the 2024 event as its ‘Golden Jubilee’. Running from June 20-29, the theme ‘SHINE’ has been selected for the festival, to represent giving forth light, brightening up dark spaces and restoring the brilliance of things that have become dull. “Pride celebrates the light we all hold, but it is brightest when it is shared,” the team expressed. “We invite you to shine, both in your own pride, and to be a light for those who may be in the dark right now.”
