By the time Kidman jetted out of Cannes to return home to her family in Nashville last week, she had won a seventieth anniversary prize especially
created for her, had four film entries in the official selection and had been
crowned the queen of this year’s festival. Before that came her (Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated) role as a mother in Lion, as well as a much-praised performance in the TV drama Big Little Lies. Add to that two more films set for release next year (Untouchable and Aquaman), and it’s little wonder that Nicole’s trip to Cannes has been heralded as a ‘Kidmanaissance’. Either way, she’s certainly come a long way since starring alongside Sergei the meerkat as the ‘face’ of Compare The Market just two years ago. Now, Grazia understands that the actor, forty nine, is determined to build on the momentum and has told friends she has one specific aim: to win her second Oscar next year.
