EASY LICKS EXAMPLE 1 JOHNNY MARR
This exercise features big open chords and a mix of onbeat and offbeat rhythms. Count 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & while syncing your down strums with the downbeats (1-2-3-4) and your up strums with each &. Maintain a wide strumming motion, even when you don’t need to strike the strings. This will lock down your timing, achieve a big sound and ensure you land on the correct strumming direction. The E and A chords are modified to include neighbouring notes. This creates internal melodies and interest within the phrase. Make sure you fret each chord from the tip of your fingers, rather than the side of your fingertip.
