HJ Reports: KEVIN.MURPHY

KEVIN.MURPHY celebrated its 20th anniversary with their biggest hair show to date

The KEVIN.MURPHY Reflective Perspective Global Hair Show was held in Budapest, Hungary in June and gathered over 1800 people from 40 different countries —all KEVIN. MURPHY stylists, alumni, employees and most importantly, fans of the brand. The 20th anniversary event focused on celebrating the past whilst aiming for the future. Speaking about the event, founder Kevin Murphy commented: “I don’t like to look back at things. Things that have passed are gone and we should focus on what is to come. Although, for the show, I allowed myself to take a peek back and see what we’ve done —only in order to figure out how we can better it and push innovation further.”

The day started with a press brunch where we were given an exclusive look at the limited edition designs of the brand’s ANTI.GRAVITY. SPRAY and HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY. The design represents KEVIN.MURPHY’s continuous evolution as a brand, while staying true to their roots in styling and fashion. Kevin also made an appearance to introduce the new designs: “As we enter our 20th anniversary year, I wanted to reintroduce some iconic products that showcase our heritage. I have noticed that there has been a rise in the demand for styling products across all generations and for me that’s where it all began, in the salon and on set. From the outset I wanted KEVIN.MURPHY to be different. I knew the range had to be visually distinct, there seemed little point filling innovative formulas into something that looked too regular, and it also had to perform.”

Next, we were whisked away to take a look behind the scenes for that evening’s hair show. As well as getting a chance to watch the hair teams hard at work prepping their models for the runway, we were also able to walk through a striking wig exhibit, displaying some of Kevin’s most iconic looks from the past 20 years. The wigs, displayed on silver mannequins, highlighted the vibrant and impactful career the hairdresser has had whilst leading the brand through two decades.
