MICRONEEDLING

Words Laura Potter. Photographs Shutterstock, iStock

It’s a dermatological treatment with various names – microneedling, dermarolling, derma-stamping or collagen induction therapy – and it dates from 1995. In 2006, Dr Desmond Fernandes developed the first microneedling product, called a dermaroller. This device looks like a tiny paint roller covered in little needles, 0.5-3mm in length. These are pushed over your face and neck to create controlled punctures, which force your skin to repair itself. It sounds scary, but in fact it’s gentle enough to be used around your delicate eye area.
