WELLBEING
CHANGE OF PACE
Broadcaster and former gymnast Gabby Logan opens up about the menopause, rediscovering her fitness mojo and the benefits of getting outdoors
INTERVIEW: KATE LOCKETT.
Gabby Logan is not about to pine for her periods. “A lot of women get emotional about saying goodbye; I can understand that, but I’ve been doing this every month for 35 years. I’m happy this is not going to be my thing any more,” says the 48-year-old TV presenter, who has 15-year-old twins Reuben and Lois with her husband, former rugby union star Kenny Logan.
Gabby’s The Midpoint podcast - which is sponsored by supplements brand Solgar, for whom she is an ambassador - tackles taboo topics and subjects such as hormonal changes.
“Midlife affects a lot of women in terms of identity, and it’s so physically linked to our moods and how we feel, it’s really important to know what it is. We have the power to talk, be open and stop it being this icky thing,” she says.
Here, the BBC Sport host talks to HELLO! about how she has adapted to a slower metabolism, her strict bedtime rules and why she’s not shying away from the menopause…
Gabby, conversations are opening up around the perimenopause. What were your expectations before experiencing symptoms?
“I didn’t even know the word existed two years ago; then when I started my podcast, Midpoint, ‘perimenopause’ just kept coming up. I did something with Dr Shahzadi Harper [a specialist in peri- and menopause] and she told me more about it. I realised that there were stages of menopause and that it wasn’t just a matter of hitting this thing and then coming out the other side, which I think is what a lot of people of my generation probably grew up thinking, because it wasn’t really talked about.”
