TV presenter Katie Piper tells us about how she looks after her sensitive skin, the importance of pampering and her top tip for applying false lashes
The cold weather has well and truly set in and Katie Piper is prepared to wrap up warm. “I’m wearing onesies, socks, a hot water bottle, everything,” she tells hello!. Crisper days mean Christmas is just around the corner and the presenter and activist is looking forward to spending time over the holiday season with her husband Richard Sutton and daughters Belle, seven, and Penelope, who turns four this month.
“We have some lovely stuff coming up,” she says. “We’re going to see Frozen – The Musical, which feels festive, and we’re also getting tickets to see Matilda, which is exciting.”
The 38-year-old is now a resident panellist on ITV’s Loose Women alongside stars including Ruth Langsford and Stacey Solomon, but back in 2008 she was the victim of a brutal acid attack that meant undergoing skin grafts and other serious procedures. Despite having the option to keep her identity private, she chose to waive her right to anonymity in order to increase public awareness around burns victims. In 2009, she set up The Katie Piper Foundation to give others the opportunities she had during her recovery.
Part of her rehabilitation was only accessible in the South of France, which was where she discovered skincare brand Avène. “It was introduced to me by physiotherapists and doctors because it’s great, not just for burns victims, but for people with any kind of sensitivity.
