ON WHY THE PRINCE OF WALES IS DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY WITH HIS CHILDREN
Ingrid believes that royal duties caused some strain between Elizabeth II and her eldest son (shown together in 1969). After she became Queen, he was largely brought up by nannies including Helen Lightbody
(together above right, taking a walk in St James’s Park on his third birthday in 1951)
‘The King has given William licence to be with his family, because Charles was never allowed to be’
The then Prince of Wales plays with his young son Prince William in the grounds of Kensington Palace in 1984. As King, Charles is believed to want William to spend more time with his family than he was able to do
As the King focuses on recovering from cancer, his son and heir the Prince of Wales will step up to represent him when needed.
But as Prince William’s wife the Princess recuperates following abdominal surgery, there is a clear understanding that he will continue to put his own family first, as he did during school half-term last week.
