KATE’S NEW CHAPTER BEGINS
Following the happy news that she is in remission from cancer, the Princess of Wales says she has much to look forward to
As she paused for a moment, as if to steel herself, in the bitter January cold under the arched iron gate of London’s Royal Marsden hospital last week, it was clear to see how the Princess of Wales had come full circle.
She was there to meet cancer patients in a surprise – and emotional – visit, but also to thank the staff who had cared for her during private appointments for her own treatment over a six-month period last year.
This time, she was returning in public, not as a patient but as the world-leading cancer centre’s new royal patron. And almost a year to the day since the abdominal surgery that led to her own diagnosis, she was able to share the news that she is now in remission.
Kate arrives at London’s Royal Marsden hospital (also seen left) in shades of deep red, including a plaid coat by Blazé Milano, a cashmere sweater from Kiltane Scotland and a skirt by Edeline Lee. Carrying Asprey’s Morgan bag, she wears a new pair of Cartier earrings from the Trinity range made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales
Kate is the focus of much attention – and many camera lenses – as she visits the hospital;
and is clearly moved by the touching stories of some of its patients
In a personal message posted on social media after what sources described as an “incredibly poignant” visit, she wrote: “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery.
“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
