SUMMER SKINXIETY
Why the pressure to bare all (in terms of complexion) can leave us feeling insecure
There’s something about summer that coaxes the most carefree iterations of ourselves – at least for our allotted ten days of R&R. Maybe it’s the serotonin boost of sunshine or the promise of imminent travel but while our minds may be frolicking in Formentera it’s often a different story for our temperate climate-loving complexions.
According to a new study by Roseway Labs, summer intensifies skin anxiety for 27 million Britons.
“Many people feel more anxious about their skin in the summer because there’s more on show, with a focus on looking ‘glowing’ and flawless,” says Dr Rebecca Purewal (@ Dr.Wisderm), a specialist clinical psychologist in psychodermatology and author of The Mind-Skin Connection (£25, amazon.co.uk).
