LAST DAYS OF THE DINOSAURS
In 1677, English naturalist Robert Plot came face-to-face with a thigh bone belonging to an animal one and a half times his height. He thought the monstrous femur belonged to a giant. Since then, enormous bones have shown up in rocks around the world, but the creatures that they belonged to are nowhere to be seen. From the spike-thumbed iguanodons of England to the feathered microraptors of China and the iconic tyrannosaurs of the United States, dinosaurs ruled every corner of our planet, but between sixty six to sixty four million years ago they completely disappeared. The so-called KT extinction marks the transition between the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods of geological history.
