Glossary
The place to come for key terms made easy
Accessibility
This refers to a group of settings on Mac and iOS that allow you to customise your device to suit your needs. There are settings that relate to physical and motor impairments as well as hearing or sight problems. Go to Settings or System Preferences to find them.
Firmware
This is a small piece of software that makes the bigger hardware work as intended. For example, it is firmware that makes traffic lights change colours at regular intervals and, in Mac terms, firmware is what tells your computer to perform certain tasks.
PiP
This is a shortened version of the term, ‘Picture in Picture’, which refers to being able to watch videos in a smaller, standalone window on your Mac while doing other things. This feature will also be introduced to your iPhone and iPad with the iOS 14 update, available now!
I have heard that I can use my iPhone as a means of providing internet for my Mac – how is this done?
