There is more to the art of creating striking black-and-white photographs than simply removing colour from an image. An effective monochromatic photograph should have some strong blacks and pure whites. The high contrast and absence of distracting colours helps bring out the shape and form of objects in the scene. You can also lighten or darken objects based on their original colour to help them stand out more effectively against their surroundings. We’ll show you how to convert a photo to mono in the iOS and MacOS versions of Photos to help your monochrome shots stand out from the colour crowd. We’ll also alter the mood of a mono shot by adding a hint of colour.
