Left to right – Ceòl Beag: Aiden McBride, Calum MacNeill, Annie Jackson-McIntyre, Bella Derevyankin and Noah Dawton.
Two young folk bands from Tarbert came first and second in the under-13s folk group competition at the Oban Provincial Mòd on Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9. Members of both groups also came first and second in solo and duet competitions. Na Smeòraich, four young girls aged eight, nine and 10, won the coveted first place, gaining high music and Gaelic scores. And Ceòl Beag, five youngsters aged six, seven and eight, came second, with the Gaelic adjudicator saying one of their songs was the best in the competition.
Ceòl Beag pianist Bella Derevyankin also came first in the five to six years Gaelic learner solo song competition, with the Gaelic adjudicator impressed by her ‘fault-free Gaelic performance’, while older sister Daria, the Na Smeòraich middle player, won the beginners’ fiddle competition.
