ARGYLL and Bute MSP Michael Russell and Argyll and Bute Council have welcomed the news that Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) will continue to operate Clyde and Hebridean ferry routes.
Councillor for Kintyre and the islands Robin Currie was delighted with the news and said: ‘This is great news for all the communities on the west coast. We may well have issues with CalMac but it is a public company and accountable to the taxpayer and not a private company accountable to its shareholders like Serco would have been. I very much look forward to working with CalMac so that we can improve the services to our communities.’
Mr Russell’s constituency has more ferry routes than any other. He said: ‘I am absolutely delighted that CalMac has won the tender and I congratulate the whole company but particularly the CEO Martin Dorchester who ran the bid team. They presented a compelling and comprehensive case for continuation of the company as the key ferry provider in Scotland.
