The curtain may be drawn already on the Lochgilphead and Tarbert Amateur Dramatics Society’s first play as the numbers were less than enthusiastic. No sooner had Andrew Hillier and Laura Mackintosh unpacked their bags in their new home in Lochgilphead, than they began to look for ways to fulfil their passion for drama, starting with Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest.
It seems the problem with being earnest is others matching the enthusiasm, as, in a Facebook post, am dram society leader Laura Mackintosh said: ‘ATher two audition sessions unfortunately we have to announce we can no longer stage The Importance of Being Earnest as we just didn’t have enough people audition.’
There is hope, however, for those with an itch to act. As the couple leading the society are instead focussing on plays with a smaller cast. Some suggested are Para Handy and The Steamie. Laura said: ‘In the meantime, regular meetings will be held at Lochgilphead Community Centre on a weekly basis where everyone interested can join and discuss what we will be doing.
