The appeal of Hallowe’en never seems to pall. Dressing up, venturing out into the darkness, having a laugh with your friends, collecting a bag of loot – there are so many things which make it popular. This year had the added advantage of being on a Friday. The weather was okay - not that rain ever deterred the Arran guiser - but above all, with no school the next day, meant staying out late and lying in the next morning. Bliss.
Across the island children and adults attended events held at village halls and even local shops got in on the celebrations. At the Village Shop in Whiting Bay, shopkeeper Barbara I’Anson and her staff hosted a competition in aid of Yorkhill Sick Children’s Hospital which saw customers guessing the name of their 60lb monster pumpkin donated by nurseryman Gavin Mutch.
Not all the costumes were that scary. Included in this group were an alien, a doctor and a pixie.\
