The new Hyundai Inster is a tiny city car withequipment levels that wouldn’t look out of place in a Mercedes. While it has grown-up technology, its looks are far more cutesy; the Suzuki Ignis came to mind when I first saw it. It’s electric, yet small dimensions don’t mean a small range: it will go up to 229 miles between charges. An interesting proposition, then.
The Inster’s underpinnings can be traced back to the petrol-engined Hyundai Casper that has been sold in Korea since 2021. The Casper has been extended and overhauled to make the Inster, a car designed to be exported and aimed at growing the small electric car market.
