Last year, 320,000 people were recorded as homeless in Britain, according to housing charity, Shelter. And on any one night, it’s estimated there are 4,677 people sleeping rough in the UK (homeless.org.uk). With nowhere to go, it’s hard to imagine what those without a home experience, and it makes you realise how lucky we are to have a shelter to return to at the end of every day. One woman who wants to shed a light on this issue is Karen Harvey, founder of the Toiletries Amnesty (toiletriesamnesty.org), an organisation who donate unwanted beauty products to those who are experiencing hygiene poverty. Together with Gallery at Home in Wales, they have created a photography exhibition called HOME, in support of various homeless charities across the UK. Photographers shoot an image which represents home to them, and proceeds raised for the images will go towards these charities. Here, Karen tells us more.
