As a frameset material, titanium has many advantages. It’s generally lighter than steel, is more durable than aluminium or carbon, with a ride quality that can be otherworldly. And while this precious metal might not be traditionally ‘affordable’, you’re effectively kicking against the n+1 rule by bagging yourself a bike for life (just in case you needed a convenient marital explanation…). Our first bike to tempt you into the world of precious metal is Ribble’s CGR Ti. The British brand’s go-anywhere machine gets a titanium upgrade this year, and packs a Shimano 105 groupset and hydraulic disc brakes. Kinesis – for many, the masters of metal – offer us its spec-heavy, long-distance GTD with its Ultegra groupset.
