Rungvisai inexplicably fought a good part of the fight right-handed instead of boxing in his natural southpaw stance. The scorecards of judges – Craig Metcalfe and Gerald Ritter both 115- 113, Alejandro Rochin 116-112 - were generous to the defending champion, who was given most of the later rounds.
