I have land with outline planning permission for a dwelling in Scotland; however – unlike in England – authorities here charge self-builders for developer contributions. In my case this is a fee of £8,000, payable on the day I start construction.
I have written to members of parliament to raise the issue why it’s different in each country. The Minister for Local Government & Housing, Kevin Stewart SMP, has answered that a Planning Bill is due at the end of 2018. Can Build It put pressure on MPs to help Scottish self-builders?
