Keen to channel his father’s inheritance into something special, Shaun Renwick and his wife Lou took on a challenging renovation project that ended up being a seven-year long venture. The journey involved transforming a series of sorry-looking farm buildings into a home suitable for modern living. “It was an ancient farm of great historical significance and we wanted to bring it back to life,” says Shaun. “We knew it was going to be tough – especially as we were working to a very strict budget.” It was a huge risk, too, as they bought without planning permission in place: “We didn’t have a contingency plan,” says Lou. “We just never allowed ourselves to consider that we might not get planning permission Thit wasn’t an option.”
