The government has launched a £163 million fund for self build groups across England, which it hopes will improve housing supply. Grants will be allocated by Homes England and a separate programme for the capital will be delivered by the Greater London Authority (GLA).
“Community-led housing is about local people playing a leading role in solving local housing problems”, says Nick Walkle from Homes England. “It provides affordable homes and strengthens communities in ways that aren’t always possible through mainstream housing.”
Groups registered as a legal corporation, such as a charities or co-operatives, can apply for funding. The grants will help cover the cost of surveys, design, planning and legal fees etc. Log on to www.self-build.co.uk/community-housing-fund to find out how to apply.
