Recycling workers in danger


RECYCLING has boomed in Kintyre since three-weekly bin collections began.

However, as people race to recycle, the workers processing the material, many of whom are disabled, are finding increased amounts of food waste and smashed glass mixed in with regular items.

Amanda Card, the boss of Kintyre Recycling Limited (KRL), speaking to the Courier on Wednesday, said that before the three-weekly collections started on October 3, recycling was sitting around 35 per cent but has now virtually doubled.
