Naturally, the Coronavirus pandemic has affected A-ha’s touring of Hunting High And Low; they played several sold-out dates across Europe and Australasia at the end of 2019 and start of 2020, but a swathe of cancellations soon followed. As we go to press, some Japanese and then European dates are planned from January 2021. However, everything is subject to change, so make sure you keep on top of all the latest developments at www.A-ha.com.
Before the live music industry was put on hold, everything was going well. “We went to a lot of places that we haven’t played for many years,” enthuses Paul. “We did Australia for the first time and New Zealand, territories we haven’t been so active in – super-surprising, it was very uplifting to see.”
And how did the band meet the challenge of taking such a classic album out on the road? “It’s about deciding how much you’re going to recreate and how much you’re going to change,” he says. “You try to find a nice balance. We did go to New York where I had a lot of the old synths and we sampled a lot of the actual sounds, so some of what you hear is based on the original instruments. With some of the other songs we decided to take them to a different place, so I think it’s a cool mix.
