THE CELEBRATED FORMER vocalist of pioneering Krautrock group Can has died at the age of 74. Cause of death has not been announced, although in 2014 he was diagnosed with colon cancer.
Japan-born Suzuki was famously discovered busking in Munich in 1970 by Holger Czukay and Jakki Liebezeit of Can. They subsequently invited him to replace the recently departed Malcolm Mooney. Suzuki remained with Can until 1973, through arguably the band’s most fruitful period, appearing on their albums Soundtracks, Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi and Future Days, on which he developed his often improvised vocal style.
