Extended support for Office
Microsoft 365 subscribers on Windows 10 will get longer protection
What is it?
Microsoft has announced it will continue supporting Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 until October 2028. This means 365 subscribers will keep receiving security updates for Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. It had originally planned to end support on 14 October 2025.
Is that the same day it ends support for Windows 10?
Yes. Microsoft presumably thought it made sense to axe support for the programs running on Windows 10 on the same day it ends support for the operating system itself. That would make life easier for Microsoft’s security teams and avoid giving people a false sense of safety. It was also delivering a message to users that they should upgrade to Windows 11 in order to keep using Office tools.
