What is it?
Standing for Portable Network Graphics, it’s a popular image format that uses lossless compression. This makes it ideal for sharp, clean images with transparent backgrounds, such as logos, icons, screenshots and illustrations.
Remind me – what does lossless mean?
It’s a method of shrinking files without losing any data. Every pixel stays exactly the same, so image quality never deteriorates no matter how often you open and edit the file. This is its main advantage over JPEG.
