OnePlus 15R
Balance of power
SMARTPHONE | £629 from OnePlus www.snipca.com/57578
OnePlus’s R series phones have usually followed a simple formula, giving you a cut-down version of the Chinese manufacturer’s premium devices at a more affordable price. The company’s new 15R, however, takes a slightly different approach, compromising on the camera capabilties of the OnePlus 15 (£979 from www.snipca.com/57584, reviewed in Issue 725) while beefing up its performance levels. It gets the balance spot on and is a pocket-sized powerhouse.
In its levels of performance this can trade blows with high-end phones
The design is broadly similar to the 15, with the same square-ish form and camera block at the rear (pictured below). The basic 12GB RAM/256GB storage version comes in a stylish green, while the 16GB/512GB version is black and costs an extra £80. The aluminium sides and glass rear give it some premium glamour, yet it’s fully dust resistant and can survive immersion in up to 1.5 metres of water or a spray down with 80°C water jets. The screen uses the cheaper Gorilla Glass 7i toughened glass rather than the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 of the OnePlus 15, and while this makes it slightly less resistant to scrapes and scratches, it remains a very robust device.
