Have you ever heard of ‘photogrammetry’? How about the terms Neural Radiance Field (NeRF) or Generative Fill? If you’ve looked at Google Earth or any other digital map application, you will have seen some examples of photogrammetry in use. It’s an established method of using photography to measure environmental objects, commonly deployed in Geoscience. It’s not just used for mapping though, it’s also used in archaeology, surveying, crime scene investigations, climate science and for special effects in films and gaming.
